Song Choices

Our Song Choices

Can’t Feel My Face- The Weekend
This song is our first choice for the music video and website because the song is, new, upbeat and fun. We think the song would be good to do because we would like to have a concept/performance based video as this is a common feature of Pop music videos, so on the upbeat parts like the chorus we would have a group of people dancing, we would begin the video with the ‘artist’ singing in the dark and then slowly make it lighter so the artist is visible.

What Do You Mean- Justin Bieber
We would like to do our music video and website on this song because it is a fun and upbeat song, it is by Justin Bieber who is a well-known pop artist, this is his latest song which is very popular and finally we would like the video to be a mix of performance and concept base. These styles would work with this song because there are slower parts of the song and then there are more upbeat parts where we would potentially have a group of people dancing.

Bruno mars – Uptown funk

The reason we chose this song is because it’s a well-known up beat pop song. It would be fun to film a music video with this song as it would be very entertaining for the audience to watch as well as the artist to perform as it would include a lot of dancing, moving around and bright colours.

LMFAO Party Rock Anthem Music Video Analysis

LMFAO- Party Rock Anthem

Establishing Shot
The establishing shot is black screen with red writing, this introduces the video as the music does not match the video from this we know that the video will be narrative based. The music does not begin till one minute twenty-eight seconds to introduce the video, this involves the audience and ensures they know what the video is about. The black background implies the video will be mysterious however red connotes energy and danger which reflects the video because there are two men is shown to be in hospital (twenty three seconds) which represents the danger and there are lots of people dancing (two minutes eleven on wards) which represents energy. The writing fades in which has a dramatic effect which links to the sound effects in the background. This video is a parody, the video mimics a number of outrageous common conventions of other music videos, and the video ironically follows the comedy genre.

Group shot, Wide Angle, Fast Pace
This shot matches the lyrics because he is "running" there are several fast pace shot reverse shots which reinforces the energy they have to "Party". The artist is makes eye contact in between looking at the back up dancers to include the audience and encourage them to "Party" with them. The setting of the video reflects the clothing as they are clothing associated with the Pop genre. The dancers are framed by the building to make them stand out and ensure the audience looks at them.

Two Shot, Fade,
The video and music both fade at three minutes thirty eight for 1 second, this was a common technique used in the 1950s, and this technique has a dramatic effect it catches the audience’s attention and makes them question pause for a freestyle dance until four minutes ten seconds where the lyrics re-start. The artists are in the centre of the shot and are again framed by the two buildings and there is a flood of lighting above them to highlight the dancers.

Cheryl Cole Fight For This Love Music Video Analysis

Cheryl Cole- Fight For This Love

Establishing Shot
The establishing shot fades in to a close up shot of the artist. This uses the artist star persona right from the beginning engaging the audience and her fans as they immediately know that it's her video. Within the first 5 seconds of the video the artist makes eye contact with the audience which not only gains the attention of the audience, it shows the confidence the artist has as well as making the audience feel like the artist is connecting with them. The artist is in the centre of the shot and her face is framed by her hair making her the centre of attention and the first thing the audience sees.

Wide Angle/Birds Eye View

This wide angle shot taken at a birds eye view is in a white setting, this makes everything look really bright and focuses on the artist and her dancers because the dancers are wearing black which stands out on the white background. The artist is wearing mostly white which has connotations of innocence, her trouser are animal prints which links to the title of the song "Fight" because animals and fighting are both linked together. The artist is in the centre of the rest of the dancers so she is focused on which builds her star persona. It's taken at a bird’s eye view which makes them look smaller and vulnerable

The artist is again in the centre of the shot so she is centre of attention and the audience focus on her. On the left hand side of the artist is her name which uses her star persona linking her to her name for the audience to see and to make it easier for them to remember, this also ensure the song is always linked to the artist because she is in the video and her name covers the first third of the shot. The house style is consistent as the same three colors are used throughout the video: White, black and red. Black and red both provide the binary opposite of white as they are associated with mystery, danger and maturity whereas white connotes innocence, immaturity and submissiveness. This shows the artist had many qualities informing the audience about the artist. In the final third of the shot the lyrics to the song are written, this links to the lyrics and allows the reader to sing along if they want. The artist is wearing a military looking outfit which again links to the title and chorus of "fighting" and wearing the colour red links to "love"
